SAEDNEWS: An iron is an essential household appliance found in every home. Regular use of an iron causes water deposits to build up in its tank. These deposits not only reduce the iron’s steam output but can also damage clothing.
According to Saed News Family Service, you can use the following methods to remove scale buildup from your iron:
Using White Vinegar:
White vinegar is one of the most effective materials for descaling an iron. Pour one cup of white vinegar into the iron’s water tank and turn the iron on. Let it run for 10 minutes until the vinegar boils. Then, turn off the iron and allow it to cool. Finally, rinse the tank with plain water.
Using Baking Soda:
Baking soda is another effective option for removing scale. Add one tablespoon of baking soda to the iron’s tank and turn it on. Let the iron run for 10 minutes until the baking soda boils. Turn off the iron, allow it to cool, and then rinse the tank with plain water.
Using a Water and Salt Solution:
Mix one cup of water with one tablespoon of salt. Pour the solution into the iron’s tank and turn the iron on. Let it run for 10 minutes, then turn it off and allow it to cool. Rinse the tank with plain water afterward.
Using a Water and Dish Soap Solution:
Mix one cup of water with one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid. Pour the solution into the iron’s tank and turn it on. Let it run for 10 minutes, then turn off the iron and allow it to cool. Finally, rinse the tank with water.
Tips to Prevent Steam Iron Scale:
Use distilled water: Distilled water contains no minerals that can cause scale.
Empty the tank after each use: This prevents minerals from settling.
Wipe the iron with a damp cloth after use: This removes any leftover mineral residue from the surface.

Additional Notes:
Always unplug the iron before descaling.
Avoid pouring acidic substances like lemon juice or soda into the iron; they can damage it.
If the scale buildup is heavy, you may need to repeat the descaling process several times.
