SAEDNEWS: 3,000-Year-Old Golden Half-Face Mask Unearthed in China Sparks New Interest
According to Saednews, A remarkable 3,000-year-old gold mask believed to have been used during ceremonial gatherings has been discovered in southwest China's Sichuan Province at the legendary Sanxingdui archaeological site. The artifact is among more than 500 Bronze Age relics recently uncovered, highlighting the site's immense cultural and historical significance.
In addition to fragments of the gold mask, archaeologists unearthed a variety of precious artifacts, including bird-shaped gold ornaments, gold foil pieces, bronze-covered sculpted heads, and finely crafted objects made from elephant ivory, jade, and bone.
Researchers believe these discoveries could provide valuable new insights into the mysterious ancient Shu civilization, which ruled the region until 316 BC. Despite its historical importance, very few written records of the Shu Kingdom have survived.
According to China's National Cultural Heritage Administration, the gold mask weighs approximately 280 grams and is estimated to be composed of about 84% gold, making it one of the most significant archaeological finds from the Sanxingdui ruins.
