SAEDNEWS: Kurt Wenner, an American artist and former NASA illustrator, is renowned for his three-dimensional, surreal paintings on the ground—images so lifelike that it’s hard to believe they were created with chalk on a flat surface.
Kurt Wenner was born in Santa Barbara, California. After studying at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Pasadena Art Center, he was invited to collaborate with NASA due to his exceptional hand-drawing skills. A few years later, he left NASA to pursue his passion for classical art, traveling to Europe to study masterpieces up close. Unable to find a formal program for classical art training, he created his own curriculum and spent countless hours drawing works from the Vatican Museums and the Pantheon.
During this period, Wenner discovered street painting. One day, on his way to the Vatican, he saw artists creating chalk images on the pavement. When he tried it himself, he quickly became captivated by the art form. Within months, he developed a new style now known as “3D Street Art.”
Drawing inspiration from diverse themes, Wenner creates paintings that reveal astonishing depth when viewed from the correct angle, appearing like sculptures embedded in the street. He is recognized as the founder of this style, and his works have been exhibited in more than 30 countries.
