SAEDNEWS: At first, I felt something cold—like it was crawling across my shirt. I thought I probably hadn’t closed the water bottle properly and that water was dripping onto my clothing.
According to Saednews reports, a pilot flying over northeastern South Africa experienced a terrifying mid-flight incident when he discovered a highly venomous cobra inside the cockpit, prompting an emergency landing.
Rudolf Erasmus, the pilot, was cruising at around 11,000 feet when he suddenly felt something cold and moving beneath his shirt. At first, he assumed he had not sealed his water bottle properly and that water was dripping onto him.
Moments later, when he looked to his left, he was shocked to see a cobra positioned under his seat.
He later described the experience as extremely frightening.
“The first sensation was something cold, like it was crawling on my shirt. I thought I had not closed my water bottle properly and that water was leaking,” he said.
Realizing the danger, Erasmus initially refrained from alarming passengers while he quickly assessed the situation. He then informed them calmly that there was a snake under his seat and that they would be landing as soon as possible.
Cobra bites are highly dangerous and can be fatal within about 30 minutes without immediate treatment.
