The Danish police officer presented two options to the refugees, who were en route to Sweden: since the highway was closed to refugees, they could either apply for asylum in Denmark or return to Germany.
Amid this situation, a playful Syrian girl invited the officer to play a guessing game known locally as “Gol ya Poch” (a game similar to guessing which hand holds an object). The Danish officer kindly accepted and played along with the child. The image of the officer was first published in the Danish newspaper BT.
The publication of the image on social media triggered a wave of emotional reactions from around the world. Many women and girls from different countries commented on the photos and sent emails to the Danish police and BT, with some even expressing marriage proposals to the officer. Many others praised his compassionate behavior toward the Syrian refugee girl.
