The Virgin Gorda Islands in the Caribbean Sea

According to Saednews, Virgin Gorda is a beautiful island covering approximately 21 square kilometres in the Caribbean Sea, east of Puerto Rico and northeast of the United States Virgin Islands. It is the third-largest island in the British Virgin Islands archipelago, after Tortola and Anegada.

The islands were discovered by Italian explorer Christopher Columbus in 1493. According to legend, he named the island Virgin Gorda, meaning “Fat Virgin,” because its outline on the horizon resembles a plump woman lying on her side.

The island’s main settlement, Spanish Town, is located on the southwestern coast.

One of Virgin Gorda’s most remarkable attractions is The Baths, an unusual geological formation situated at the island’s southern tip. This scenic area is a popular destination for boating and exploration.

The Baths features enormous granite boulders scattered along the shoreline, believed to have been formed through ancient geological processes associated with volcanic activity. Other highlights include an old copper mine, small natural caves, spectacular coastal scenery, and extraordinary natural pools.

Diving is another unforgettable experience on Virgin Gorda. Visitors can explore colourful coral reefs and discover the fascinating underwater ecosystem, making the island an ideal destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
