About Namak Abrud Tourist Town

Namak Abrud is a residential and tourist town situated along the road between Chalus and Tonekabon. Covering an area of approximately 650 hectares, it is bordered by the Caspian Sea to the north and the Madoban Mountains of the Alborz range to the south.

The town is generally divided into two main sections:

Residential Area

The residential section consists of eight neighborhoods and has the capacity to accommodate up to around 100,000 people. Its access roads are separated from other parts of the town.

Tourist Area

The tourist section contains a wide range of recreational and leisure facilities designed to meet the needs of visitors arriving from near and far. These attractions provide opportunities for entertainment, adventure, and relaxation.

The area is also rich in natural vegetation. Dense stands of native trees, along with boxwood trees believed to be more than 700 years old, as well as alder, elm, and maple species, add to the beauty of the landscape.

Despite its developed tourist facilities, Namak Abrud has preserved much of its natural environment and ecological character. The area is also home to one of Iran's scenic forest parks, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and travelers.

Namak Abrud Cable Car

One of the main attractions of Namak Abrud is its cable car, located in the southeastern part of the town. The cable car takes visitors toward the beautiful peaks of Madoban and Div Hamam, offering spectacular views along the way.

As the cabins climb higher, passengers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding forests and the Caspian Sea. The changing scenery makes the ride an attraction in its own right.

Namak Abrud currently has two cable-car lines:

Line 1

The first line consists of 42 four-person cabins and covers a route of approximately 2,100 meters. Traveling at a speed of about 3 meters per second, the journey takes less than 15 minutes.

The cable-car towers range from approximately 4 to 50 meters in height. Passenger numbers vary throughout the year depending on the region's climate, geographical conditions, and holiday periods.

Line 2

The second cable-car line is approximately 1,700 meters long and operates at a speed of 6 meters per second. It carries visitors toward the relatively untouched Div Hamam Peak.

This line has 35 fiberglass cabins, each capable of carrying up to six passengers.

Namak Abrud Cable Car: Features and Safety

The Namak Abrud cable car is described as the highest cable-car system in Iran. It was constructed and opened in 1993 (1372 in the Iranian calendar) with the involvement of Iranian specialists.

Maintenance and safety are important aspects of its operation. The cable-car lines are inspected regularly, while maintenance and replacement of components—including tower wheels, tower tires, bearings, and other parts—are carried out according to scheduled requirements.

Another notable feature is the automated monitoring system, which can detect technical problems and alert the relevant personnel. These systems are intended to help maintain safe operating conditions.

Emergency measures are also in place. In the event of a power outage, a generator and an emergency motor are available to assist with evacuating passengers from the line.

Scenic Mountain Peaks

Two impressive mountain peaks overlook Namak Abrud. Covered with dense vegetation, they create striking views, and at times the mountains become enveloped in mist, creating an atmospheric and almost dreamlike landscape.

Both peaks can be reached by cable car:

Madoban Peak

Madoban is particularly popular during the warmer months because temperatures at the summit can be around 10°C cooler than at the foot of the mountain. Visitor facilities and refreshment areas make it a pleasant place to spend time and enjoy the mountain environment.

Div Hamam Peak

Located at an elevation of approximately 700 meters above sea level, Div Hamam is known for its natural caves and surrounding mountain scenery. With visitor facilities and a remarkable landscape, the peak offers travelers an opportunity to experience the area's natural beauty.

Namak Abrud Alpine Coaster: A Thrilling Ride

Namak Abrud is also home to Iran's first alpine coaster, offering visitors a more adventurous way to explore the landscape.

Passengers can ride through the forest at speeds of up to 25 kilometers per hour, passing between trees and enjoying views of the surrounding scenery along the route.

Important Rules for the Alpine Coaster

  • Children under five years old are not permitted to use the alpine coaster.

  • Children between five and ten years old may ride only when accompanied by a parent and using a two-person ticket.

  • Passengers must not stop or leave the coaster during the ride, as doing so could create a hazard for themselves and other visitors.

  • People with heart conditions are advised not to use the attraction.

How to Reach the Alpine Coaster

The alpine coaster is located in the lower section of the Namak Abrud complex, so visitors do not need to take the cable car to reach it.
