SAEDNEWS: Archaeologists Discover Child’s Grave Buried with 142 Dogs in Egypt’s Fayoum Cemetery

Mass Grave Containing Child’s Remains Discovered Alongside Hundreds of Dogs

According to Saednews reports, the area around the Fayoum region, located west of the Nile about 52 miles south of Cairo, contains numerous ancient ruins and oasis sites. In recent years, archaeologists have been excavating a cemetery in this area, uncovering human remains and historical artifacts dating from 4000 BCE to the 7th century CE.

In the latest excavations, researchers from the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Egyptology team discovered the burial site of an 8-year-old child. Inside the same grave, the remains of 142 dogs were also found. Zoologist Galina Belova examined the dogs and concluded that they all died at the same time, with no evidence of violence at the time of death.

Traces of blue clay—commonly found in ancient Egypt—were discovered on the dogs’ remains, suggesting they were near a water source that may have led to their drowning. The reason the child was buried in this manner remains unknown. One hypothesis suggests the child may have been a caretaker of the animals, though this has not been confirmed.

More puzzling is the fact that the child was found with a linen bag placed over the head. A similar burial was previously discovered at the same site, where another individual also had a linen covering over the head. In that earlier case, the person was likely executed, as a spear was found embedded in the chest.
