Spanish Prime Minister: War Against Iran Would Be an Absolute Catastrophe / Conditions Far Worse Than the Iraq War

According to Saed News, citing Khabar Online, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez described the U.S. and Israel’s aggressive actions against Iran as “a total disaster.”

Reported by IRNA from the newspaper El País, Sánchez addressed the Spanish Congress in a public session defending his government’s “No to War” stance. He stated:

“Since February 28, nearly 2,000 deaths have been confirmed, over four million people in Iran and Lebanon have been displaced, around €12 billion of public funds have been spent on military operations, global tourism, maritime trade, and air traffic have sharply declined, and the prices of hydrocarbons and essential raw materials for the proper functioning of the global economy and food security have increased significantly.”

In a critical question aimed at challenging the illegal and unjustifiable aggression against Iran, he asked:

“And all this for what?”
“To undermine international law, destabilize the Middle East, reignite conflicts in Iraq and Lebanon, and bury Gaza under the rubble of neglect and indifference.”

Sánchez told Spanish lawmakers that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seeks to inflict on Lebanon the same level of destruction already caused by Israeli forces in Gaza.

He emphasized that the Middle East war is “far worse” than the 2003 Iraq War, stating:

“This situation is not comparable to the illegal Iraq war. We are facing something much worse. Much worse, with a potentially broader and deeper impact.”

He further explained that U.S. and Israeli attacks began at a time when the United States “held a nuclear deal with Iran in hand,” but rejected it “without explanation, without informing allies, without legal backing, and without a clear objective.”

Sánchez added:

“The White House claimed the reason was that Iran was only two weeks away from obtaining a nuclear weapon; however, several senior officials from U.S. security agencies publicly stated that Iran did not pose an immediate threat to the West.”
