Judiciary Vows Strong Punishment for Perpetrators of Recent Unrest

According to SAEDNEWS, Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir said on Sunday that cases have already been opened for those leading the riots that hit several Iranian cities over the past week.

He added that the ringleaders’ locations have been identified, and some of them have been sealed.

The Judiciary will definitely give a severe punishment to all those who incited the violence, a punishment which will make them regret their actions, the spokesperson said during his weekly press briefing in Tehran.

Anyone involved in causing the deaths of the people and the damage to public and private property will be held accountable, he stressed.

Jahangir also hailed the Iranian people for firming stance in the face of the recent riots which he blamed on Iran’s enemies.

He said that the Iranians, through their million-man marches nationwide last Monday, showed that they are vigilant and proved to the enemies and their cronies inside the country that they strongly support the Islamic system.

Unrest broke out in a number of Iranian cities over the past week after terror groups, backed by foreign players including the United States and Israel, hijacked peaceful protests that had begun days earlier over economic issues. The protests morphed into scenes of violence while the Iranian government was in talks with the protesters’ representatives to hear their demands.
