SAEDNEWS: The well-known “Dua of Light” of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (peace be upon her), which is known as the “prayer of light for fever,” is the same as the supplication “Bismillah al-Nur,” which has many miracles.
The Light Supplication (Duʿāʾ al-Nūr), also known as “Bismillāh Nūr ʿalā Nūr,” is among the well-known and trusted supplications used for fulfilling needs and healing illness. Many people also refer to it as the “Light Supplication for fever.” According to narrations, this supplication was taught by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) to Lady Fāṭimah al-Zahrā (peace be upon her), and it is regarded as one of the valuable and highly virtuous prayers among Shia Muslims.
In Islamic culture, seeking intercession (tawassul) through the أهل البیت (Ahl al-Bayt) is considered one of the most important ways of drawing closer to God and holds a special place among believers. In this context, turning to Lady Fāṭimah (peace be upon her) and reciting supplications such as Duʿāʾ al-Nūr is widely recommended for the fulfillment of needs and healing of the sick.
During the days of Fāṭimiyyah commemorations, believers—alongside mourning gatherings and the visitation of Lady Fāṭimah (peace be upon her)—may also recite Duʿāʾ al-Faraj, Hadith al-Kisāʾ, and the Tasbīḥ of Lady Fāṭimah. Duʿāʾ al-Nūr is also mentioned in sources such as Mehaj al-Daʿawāt and Dalāʾil al-Imāmah, and it is known as a supplication for the fulfillment of needs.

In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.
In the name of God, the Light; in the name of God, Light of Light; in the name of God, Light upon Light; in the name of God, who is the Administrator of all affairs.
In the name of God, who created light from light. Praise belongs to God, who created light from light and sent down light upon Mount Ṭūr,
in a written Book, in an unfolded scroll, in a determined measure, upon an honored Prophet.
Praise belongs to God, who is mentioned with honor and known with glory, and who is thanked in both ease and hardship. And may God bless our master Muhammad and his pure family.
Duʿāʾ al-Nūr is attributed with many spiritual benefits, including:
It is reported that this supplication is beneficial for treating fever and protecting from illness. It is narrated from Salmān that he taught this supplication to more than a thousand people in Mecca and Medina, and all of them were cured of fever.
Reports mention that Lady Fāṭimah (peace be upon her) regularly recited this supplication day and night. Through her persistence in reciting it, it is said that God caused a palm tree to grow for her in Paradise, and fruits from it were later gifted to her through heavenly means.
For tawassul (seeking intercession) through Lady Fāṭimah (peace be upon her), Duʿāʾ al-Nūr is recommended alongside other acts of devotion such as the Tasbīḥ of Lady Fāṭimah. Some scholars have included it among the post-prayer supplications, especially after the dawn prayer.
Duʿāʾ al-Nūr is regarded as a prayer for the fulfillment of needs, protection from Satan’s whisperings, and attaining God’s pleasure.
