Meta claims that its augmented reality (AR) glasses are the best in the world. Their Ray-Ban smart glasses, currently available on the market, have received overwhelming enthusiasm from users.
According to Saed News, citing Hamshahri, these smart glasses come equipped with a built-in camera and speakers, allowing users to listen to music and make phone calls. However, Meta’s ambitions go far beyond this. The company is working on a next-generation AR headset that eliminates the need for smartphones altogether.
Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s Chief Technology Officer, stated:
"Meta’s AR glasses could be the most advanced technology in their field. However, they are unlikely to hit the market before the end of the decade. Meta plans to release its first prototype in 2024, followed by lighter and more advanced versions in 2026 and 2028."
In the future, users may be able to do much more than just make video calls—they could interact with holograms of other people in real-time. However, one of the biggest technical challenges is developing high-quality, transparent displays that remain affordable.
In addition, Meta is exploring new materials for these glasses and working on a battery that won’t require frequent recharging. On the bright side, advancements in artificial intelligence are expected to make these AR glasses even more useful than Meta originally envisioned.
