SAEDNEWS: The Ginkgo Tree in Bangi-ri Village, South Korea, Is Over 800 Years Old
According to Saed News, a ginkgo tree in the village of Bange Ri, South Korea, is at least 800 years old and draws visitors from near and far—especially when its leaves turn into a stunning display of golden autumn hues.
Standing 33 meters tall, this ancient tree has been officially protected as a natural monument since January 31, 1965.
Legend has it that the tree was planted by a member of the Songju Lee family, who paused to drink water and, upon leaving, accidentally left his cane behind. The cane then transformed into a tree and grew to its majestic height.
Another local tale suggests that a white snake resides within the tree, which is why it has grown so strong and large over the centuries.
