SAEDNEWS: CNN reported that following Israel’s attack on Beirut and Iran’s decision to launch a strike against Israel, Washington, working with Qatari officials who were in Tehran, helped prevent the agreement from collapsing during the final hours.
According to Saed News Agency’s political desk, CNN reported that just hours before the announcement of an agreement between Tehran and Washington, an Israeli strike on southern Beirut targeting Hezbollah positions had raised serious concerns that the negotiations could collapse. U.S. officials subsequently launched intensive diplomatic efforts to salvage the deal.
According to the report, American officials believed that Iran was preparing to carry out attacks against Israel in the hours leading up to the announcement of the agreement. As a result, Washington, working closely with Qatari officials present in Tehran, engaged in intensive consultations aimed at preventing further escalation and keeping the agreement on track.
Speaking to Fox News, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said: “After Israel’s attack on Beirut, we were very concerned, and there were many indications that Iran intended to launch a large number of missiles toward Israel.”
Following a series of diplomatic exchanges, the details of which Vance did not disclose, Tehran reportedly assured Washington through established communication channels that it would not retaliate for the attack and would proceed with signing the peace agreement.
CNN, citing informed sources, wrote that it remains unclear what last-minute changes may have been made to the text of the agreement. However, the Israeli strike on Lebanon effectively became one of the factors accelerating the final negotiations, placing additional pressure on all parties to reach a deal.
In another part of the report, CNN claimed that Donald Trump was deeply angered by Israel’s attack on Beirut and voiced his objections during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reportedly using harsh and profane language.
Commenting on the strike in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump said that the attack on Beirut “should not have happened,” especially on a day when the United States was so close to achieving a peace agreement with Iran.
Trump also stated that while Israel has the right to defend itself, the attack it was responding to had been very minor. He noted that no one had been injured or killed and argued that the strike should not have been allowed to disrupt such an important diplomatic process.
