U.S. Energy Secretary: The Way To Reduce Gasoline And Diesel Prices Again Is An Agreement With Iran

According to SAEDNEWS, the U.S. Energy Secretary said that lowering prices at American gas stations ultimately requires an agreement with Iran to allow more oil to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Wright made these remarks during a visit to a new offshore oil and gas facility operated by Sable Offshore near Santa Barbara in California, which was restarted this year after U.S. President Donald Trump replaced Cold War-era defense production laws with state regulations.

Wright said the government is ready to take further steps aimed at reducing gasoline prices in the state and has been seeking engagement with California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom on ways to help the state’s oil refineries after two recent shutdowns.

The U.S. Energy Secretary added: “The best way is to remove some regulations that caused the shutdown of two refineries. I have tried to talk with the governor here and understand why Californians are being sacrificed for something that has no environmental, economic, or security benefit for California.”

In response to a question about what is needed to reduce soaring gasoline prices for all Americans, Wright said this requires an agreement with Iran, stating: “The way to reduce gasoline and diesel prices again is more oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz. Ultimately, it ends with an agreement with Iran.”

The Trump cabinet official claimed: “We pay more, but at the same time we resolve a major geopolitical challenge, a major threat to national security and the entire region of the world. This is a cost we pay in exchange for something we gain.”
