SAEDNEWS: Ziyarat Aal-e Yasin is one of the well-known visitation supplications for Imam al-Mahdi. It carries great reward and many virtues, and it is entirely filled with greetings and salutations upon the family of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

What is Ziyarat Aal Yasin?

According to Saednews, Ziyarat Aal Yasin is one of the well-known salutations dedicated to the Imam of the Time (may Allah hasten his reappearance). It is considered highly beneficial for the opening of affairs and the fulfillment of needs. This ziyarat begins with 23 phrases of “peace (Salam)”, the first directed to the family of Ya-Sin (the pure progeny of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family), and the subsequent salutations are addressed to the various titles of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance).

It then continues with expressions of correct Islamic beliefs, bearing witness to them in the presence of the Imam of the Age, and renewing the covenant of loyalty to the chosen leaders of the religion.

This ziyarat highlights important principles of Islamic and Shia belief such as monotheism (Tawhid), prophethood of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the Imamate of the Twelve Imams (peace be upon them), the truth of return (Raj‘ah), resurrection, death, the questioning of the grave by Munkar and Nakir, the bridge (Sirat), Paradise, Hell, and faith in all of them, making it highly significant for the visitor.

Ziyarat Aal Yasin is regarded as a highly authentic supplication. It is also mentioned in correspondence attributed to Abu Ja‘far Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Himyari al-Qummi, one of the transmitters who lived during the final years of the Minor Occultation and is said to have had contact with Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance).

Content of Ziyarat Aal Yasin

After the 23 salutations sent upon the Prophet’s family and the titles of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance), supplications follow in the ziyarat, such as:

“O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, the Prophet of Your mercy and the light of Your illumination. Fill my heart with the light of certainty, my chest with the light of faith, my thoughts with the light of good intentions, my share with the light of knowledge, my strength with the light of righteous deeds, and my tongue with the light of truthfulness.”

It then concludes with salutations upon Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance), prayers for his safety, divine support, and the hastening of his appearance, along with prayers for the earth to be filled with justice and fairness and for the defeat of disbelievers, hypocrites, and enemies of the faith.

In this ziyarat, the word “truth” (ḥaqq) is mentioned 12 times, and the word “proof” (ḥujjah) is mentioned 12 times. It is considered an important supplication in religious texts, and many scholars regard it as one of the best salutations for Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance), which may be recited at any time.

Peace be upon you, O reciter of the Book of God and its interpreter. Peace be upon you at all moments of your night and all parts of your day.

Peace be upon you, O remaining proof of God on His earth. Peace be upon you, O firm covenant of God which He has taken and confirmed.

Peace be upon you, O promise of God which He has guaranteed.

Peace be upon you, O raised banner, O flowing knowledge, O helper of those in distress, and O vast mercy.

Peace be upon you, the promise that is never false. Peace be upon you when you stand, when you sit, when you recite and clarify.

Peace be upon you when you pray and supplicate, when you bow and prostrate.

Peace be upon you when you declare the oneness of God and glorify Him. Peace be upon you when you praise Him and seek forgiveness.

Peace be upon you in the morning and in the evening.

Peace be upon you in the night when it covers, and in the day when it appears.

Peace be upon you, O trusted Imam. Peace be upon you, O awaited leader.

I bear witness before you, my master, that there is no god but Allah alone without partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, and that Ali is the Commander of the Faithful, and Hasan, Husayn, Ali ibn Husayn, Muhammad ibn Ali, Ja‘far ibn Muhammad, Musa ibn Ja‘far, Ali ibn Musa, Muhammad ibn Ali, Ali ibn Muhammad, Hasan ibn Ali are all the proofs of God.

And I bear witness that you are the Proof of God, the first and the last, and that your return is true without doubt…

(continued with affirmation of resurrection, judgment, Paradise and Hell, and loyalty to the Imam and disassociation from his enemies…)

Virtues of Ziyarat Aal Yasin

1. Renewal of Covenant
It reminds believers of core Shia doctrines such as Imamate, resurrection, and divine justice. Reflecting on it helps renew one’s covenant with God and the Ahl al-Bayt and reinforces loyalty.

2. Recognition of the Imam
It helps believers recognize the Imam through his attributes such as “Baqiyatullah” (the remaining proof of God), “Hujjatullah” (God’s proof), and “Caliph of God.”

3. Responding to the Imam’s Greeting
The text consists largely of salutations upon the Prophet’s family. In Islamic belief, greetings sent upon them are acknowledged and answered spiritually.

4. Turning to the Family of Prophethood
Believers turn to the Ahl al-Bayt in times of need and supplication, seeking intercession and nearness to God.

According to tradition, Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) is reported to have instructed believers:
“When you wish to turn to God through us, then say: Peace be upon the family of Ya-Sin…”

For this reason, Ziyarat Aal Yasin is considered a means of addressing the Prophet’s family in prayer and supplication.
