Saed News: Many of us unknowingly make mistakes while brushing our teeth that can affect the gums, lead to tooth decay,... In cases where gum inflammation, or an imbalance in the oral microbiome already exist, inflammatory substances and bacteria may enter the bloodstream and harm the heart, brain, or joints. But do you know these mistakes?
According to SAEDNEWS, brushing immediately after meals may damage teeth because after eating—especially acidic foods—the environment inside the mouth becomes acidic and tooth enamel temporarily softens. Brushing during this period can erode enamel and increase tooth sensitivity. Therefore, it is better to wait 30 to 60 minutes before brushing. Another option is using an alkaline mouthwash to neutralize oral acids.
The mouth is a complex system that includes enamel, gum tissue, saliva, and a living microbiome. Proper nutrition is also important. Adequate intake of vitamins D3 and K2 helps direct calcium to the appropriate places in the body.
Just as completely destroying beneficial gut bacteria is not recommended, eliminating all bacteria in the mouth is also harmful. The oral microbiome plays an important role in protecting the teeth and gums. Constant use of strong antibacterial products may disrupt microbial balance and cause dry mouth, inflammation, and bad breath.
Brushing harder or longer does not necessarily mean cleaner teeth. Aggressive brushing can even cause gum recession and enamel erosion. It is better to use ultra-soft toothbrushes and avoid applying too much pressure. For electric toothbrushes, models with pressure-control features are recommended. Toothbrushes should also be cleaned regularly because they can become a place where bacteria accumulate.
