Saed News: Weight loss injections can be beneficial for many people and may even reduce the risk of certain diseases, but new research shows that their effect is not permanent.
According to SAEDNEWS, weight loss injections have become a symbol of rapid weight loss in recent years. Many people have managed to lose a significant amount of weight in a short period using drugs such as Wegovy, Ozempic, and Mounjaro; an event that has led to the widespread popularity of these medications around the world.
However, recent research shows that the story of weight loss may take a different path after stopping the drug.
Based on an analysis published in the scientific journal The BMJ, people who stop using weight loss injections quickly regain part of the lost weight.
Researchers, by reviewing 37 scientific studies and more than 9,000 people with obesity, found that those who stopped using these drugs gained nearly half a kilogram per month on average.
The results show that most people regain almost all the lost weight in less than two years.
More importantly, the cardiovascular benefits of these drugs also gradually decrease after stopping use.
Doctors observed that indicators such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood lipid levels in many individuals returned to pre-treatment conditions.
These findings show that the effect of weight loss injections is largely dependent on continued use.
Specialists say these drugs reduce appetite and prolong the feeling of fullness. However, when the drug is stopped, the body returns to previous patterns and appetite increases again.
If no sustainable lifestyle change is made at the same time, the likelihood of weight regain is very high.
Researchers emphasize that weight loss injections should not be seen as an independent solution.
Healthy nutrition, regular physical activity, sufficient sleep, and changes in daily habits remain the main foundation of obesity treatment, and medications can only play a supportive role.
Some experts are concerned that the widespread popularity of these drugs has created a misleading perception in society; a perception that links weight loss only to an injection.
Whereas the human body needs long-term lifestyle changes to maintain a healthy weight—changes that do not disappear after stopping the drug.
Experts believe that sustainable weight loss occurs when medication, healthy diet, exercise, and lifestyle modification come together; not when all hope is placed on a single injection.
