Saed News: Researchers at the University of Nottingham and Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands found that simple methods such as wearing ice-filled vests or taking daily cold showers can play an effective role in weight loss and fat burning.

Researchers Say Daily Cold Showers May Help Burn Fat and Reduce Weight

According to SAEDNEWS, the researchers’ study on 47 adults who were obese or overweight showed that regular exposure to low temperatures leads to the loss of fat tissue. In this scientific experiment, half of the participants were required to wear a cooling vest and waist wrap over a thin shirt for two hours every morning for six weeks.

These devices contained frozen gel packs that maintained a constant temperature of 15 degrees Celsius. The results were remarkable, as these individuals managed to lose about 0.9 kilograms in weight, almost all of which was pure fat, while the control group not only failed to lose weight but gained an average of 0.6 kilograms.

Dr. “Mariette Boon,” the lead researcher of the current study, believes that due to its simplicity and low cost, this method can serve as an effective tool for weight loss at home alongside a healthy diet and physical activity.

Researchers say that cold increases the rate of calorie metabolism; the main mechanism behind this is the activation of brown fat. This special type of fat in the body generates heat by using other fat reserves. In addition to burning fat, this process has positive effects on lipid levels, blood sugar or glucose, and reducing inflammation in the body, ultimately lowering the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Researchers believe that cold showers or swimming in cold water can also have similar effects, although swimming in open spaces may trigger different bodily reactions due to cold shock. Ultimately, researchers hope that by comparing the effects of cooling vests, which affect the body for longer periods, and cold showers, which involve more intense temperatures, they can find various ways to incorporate cold exposure into people’s daily routines to improve overall health.

The report of this research was presented at the European Congress on Obesity in Istanbul and has not yet been published in a scientific journal.
