According to SAEDNEWS, In his studios located in Oslo and northern Italy, Norwegian sculptor Håkon Anton Fagerås expertly transforms solid blocks of marble into strikingly realistic white pillows. With the aid of a pneumatic hammer and various carving tools, he crafts these slumped forms that showcase smooth folds and creases—elements that challenge our perception of marble's inherent stiffness. Without witnessing Fagerås's meticulous process, one might easily mistake these sculptures for soft fabric cushions rather than stone.
In a conversation with Sculpture Atelier, Fagerås shared his fascination with marble as a medium, highlighting its unique ability to convey deep emotional nuances. He remarked, “Marble seems fragile due to its translucency and purity, but while it looks delicate, it’s not as fragile as it seems.” He emphasized that this intriguing stone allows for precise sculpting, yet he aims to go beyond mere representation. “My primary goal is to evoke an atmosphere or sensation, rather than creating a direct depiction of something like fragility,” he explained.
