SAEDNEWS: Masdar City in the United Arab Emirates: A City That Runs Without Oil | The UAE and Its Cities – Discover Masdar City, UAE

A New City in the United Arab Emirates

According to Saednews, The United Arab Emirates is a country rich in vast oil reserves, generating billions of dollars in revenue from oil every year. Despite this wealth, the UAE is developing a city where not a single drop of oil will be used. Emiratis believe that oil will not last forever and that one day, the country’s oil reserves will eventually run out.

An Extraordinary City in the United Arab Emirates

There are other energy sources that can be used as alternatives to oil, such as solar power. Engineers are developing a city in the UAE that will rely entirely on solar energy to meet its energy needs. The city is called Masdar, and it is located approximately 32 kilometers from Abu Dhabi. If the project is successfully completed, Masdar could become one of the world’s first cities designed to operate without relying on oil.

Masdar covers an area of approximately six square kilometers. In the near future, it is expected to accommodate more than 50,000 residents, 1,000 companies, and a university. The city’s streets are very narrow, and its buildings are constructed close together. The shade created by these buildings helps reduce the heat in the streets.

Cars are not expected to be seen on Masdar’s streets because the city is compact enough for people to walk around easily. Those who become tired can use a transportation system similar to a metro, known as Personal Rapid Transit (PRT), which runs on solar energy. The PRT system operates underground and does not require drivers. Passengers simply tell the vehicle where they want to get off, and it stops at their chosen destination.

A City Built Around Recycling

In Masdar, almost everything is designed to be recycled. Approximately 80% of the city’s wastewater is expected to be treated and reused, while most waste materials will be recycled. Even construction debris will be converted into valuable resources.

But will this city succeed? The answer remains uncertain. However, early indications suggest that Masdar has the potential to become one of the world’s most energy-efficient cities in the near future.
