The Unsuccessful Conclusion Of The NPT Review Conference | The US And Its Allies Distorted Reality

According to SAEDNEWS, Do Hung Viet, the Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations and President of the NPT Review Conference, said that the conference reviewing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), held at the United Nations, was unable to reach consensus on a final document.
Do Hung Viet deeply regretted that, after consultations, the conference failed to reach consensus.

He said: Despite intensive consultations, the conference was unable to reach an agreement on the essential section, namely the first part of the draft final document.
The diplomat added: Unfortunately, the conference was not able to reach consensus.

The conference president noted that the draft document was an attempt to find “common ground” among the three main pillars of the NPT, including nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy. He added that four versions of the draft final document had been presented, revised to take into account the demands of participating countries.

Do Hung Viet added: The document before you is a genuine attempt to find common ground. However, my assessment is that the conference is not in a position to agree on its substantive work.

U.S. and Allies Distorted Reality

The Permanent Mission of Iran to the United Nations also noted the inconclusive end of the NPT Review Conference, stating that the United States and its allies attempted, amid war and attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, to distort reality and divert attention from the main threats.

The Permanent Mission of Iran to the United Nations said in a message that the 2026 NPT Review Conference ended without adopting a meaningful final document.
It added: “This failure, repeated for the third time in the past 16 years, is the result of a lack of genuine political will from a specific group of countries.”

The Iranian mission also stressed: “The United States and its allies, amid their criminal war of choice in the Persian Gulf region and illegal attacks on Iran’s peaceful and safeguarded nuclear facilities, tried to misuse the NPT Review Conference to distort reality and divert attention from two fundamental threats.”

It further stated that these two threats include “their own persistent failure in nuclear disarmament” as well as “the danger posed by the only nuclear-armed regime in the Middle East, namely Israel.”

On April 27, the 11th NPT Review Conference began at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The conference, held every five years, brings together nearly all 191 member states of the treaty to assess its implementation in three main areas: non-proliferation, nuclear disarmament, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
