SAEDNEWS: Reports: Complete Suspension of Ship Traffic in the Strait of Hormuz Following Continued Tight Control by a Regional Authority Amid Blockade of Ports by a Western Country
According to the Political Service of the Saed News Agency website, citing Fars News Agency, the CNN news network reported on Sunday, April 19, 2026, based on maritime tracking data that vessel traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has been completely halted, and many ships present in the area have moved toward the Gulf of Oman.
Amid escalating tensions in the region, the spokesperson of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters stated yesterday morning:
“Until the United States ends the complete freedom of navigation for vessels departing from Iran and arriving in or leaving Iranian destinations, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will remain strictly controlled and will not return to its previous state.”
Following the announcement by the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, news sources reported the full closure of the Strait of Hormuz, with passage allegedly restricted only to Iranian vessels or ships affiliated with Iran.

Reports indicate that over the past few hours, several incidents have occurred in the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz involving an oil tanker, an Indian vessel, a container ship, and a cruise ship, suggesting that ships are not being allowed to pass through this strategic waterway.
According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), two Indian vessels (an oil tanker and another ship) were reportedly fired upon in the Strait of Hormuz and were forced to turn back. It has also been reported that a container ship, located 25 miles northeast of Oman, was struck by an unidentified projectile, causing damage to some of its containers. In a separate incident, a cruise ship in eastern Oman was also targeted in an attack.
CNN had previously reported on Saturday (April 18, 2026) that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, referring to the continued maritime blockade of Iranian ports by the United States and violations of the ceasefire, announced that the Strait of Hormuz would be closed from Saturday evening until the lifting of the blockade.
