Pezeshkian Says Completion of Corridor Projects Marks New Era in Iran-Russia Ties

In a meeting held in Tehran on Wednesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed satisfaction with the growing momentum in bilateral relations during talks with Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev.

Pezeshkian underscored Iran’s firm commitment to implementing the comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement between Tehran and Moscow. He stated that Iran is determined to operationalize the document with strength, speed, and precision.

Highlighting progress across multiple sectors, the president noted that cooperation in transportation, energy, oil and gas, agriculture and food products, as well as defense and security, is advancing at a desirable pace.

He described the completion of joint initiatives—particularly transit corridor projects—as a gateway to a new chapter in relations, paving the way for a significant leap in comprehensive bilateral ties.

Addressing broader geopolitical dynamics, Pezeshkian criticized unilateral approaches adopted by certain powers. He emphasized that regional countries should expand cooperation in a manner that eliminates the need for extra-regional actors to intervene in determining regional affairs.

For his part, Tsivilev conveyed warm greetings from Russian President Vladimir Putin and presented a report on the outcomes of the 19th Joint Economic Cooperation Commission between the two nations, describing its results as positive and productive.

He characterized the past year in Tehran-Moscow relations as fruitful, noting that the consolidation of friendly ties and the expansion of joint cooperation stand among the most significant achievements.

The Russian minister also expressed the deep sympathy of the Russian government and people following recent incidents that led to the deaths of several Iranian citizens. Moscow is confident the incidents were orchestrated by adversaries, Tsivilev said, reaffirming that Russia will continue its extensive cooperation with Iran.

He stressed that no external actor will be able to undermine the strategic partnership between the two countries.
