Iran Denounces Destruction of 56 Cultural Sites in US-Israeli Strikes

According to SAEDNEWS, The Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism strongly condemned attacks by the US and Israeli regimes on cultural and historical landmarks in Tehran and several other provinces.

According to the ministry, Tehran province suffered the most, with 19 sites affected. Among the damaged locations were Golestan Palace, the historic Tehran Bazaar, Marble Palace, Sepahsalar Mosque, and several historic government buildings.

Historic sites in Isfahan, Kurdistan, Lorestan, Kermanshah, Bushehr, and Ilam provinces were also impacted. Notably, parts of Naqsh-e Jahan Square in Isfahan—a UNESCO World Heritage site—sustained damage, along with museums and historic complexes in Sanandaj, Khorramabad, and Siraf.

The statement referred to international legal frameworks, including the 1954 Hague Convention and UN Security Council Resolution 2347, which classify attacks on cultural heritage as violations of international law.

The ministry announced that it has formally raised the issue with international organizations such as UNESCO and the United Nations and plans to assess the damage and initiate emergency restoration projects when conditions permit.
