SAEDNEWS: Civilian Killed, Two Injured in Shooting in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, Authorities Say
The Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Interior reported that one civilian was killed and two others were injured in a shooting along the Gwer-Erbil road.
The ministry said the incident occurred after individuals described as “rioters” opened fire along the route, causing the casualties.
The announcement follows reports by Reuters, citing security and medical sources in Iraq, that at least two people were killed and three others injured on Saturday after security forces of the Kurdistan Region fired during a protest outside the Lanaz refinery on the road to Erbil.
Security sources said the demonstrators had been demanding employment at the refinery when personnel tasked with protecting the facility opened fire.
The sources added that one protester was killed, and a nearby tanker truck driver also lost his life in the shooting.
