SAEDNEWS: Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader on international affairs, has cautioned the United Arab Emirates (UAE) against challenging Iran’s sovereignty over three Persian Gulf islands, stating that the UAE does not compare with Iran in terms of either historical standing or military capabilities.
According tot Saednews, Former Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati has rejected recent UAE claims at the United Nations concerning sovereignty over the Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa islands, insisting that the three islands will remain part of Iran.
In a Saturday post on X, Velayati criticized the UAE’s position, arguing that historical documents and maps from previous centuries identify the islands as Iranian territory.
He also urged the UAE to avoid depending on foreign powers for its security and instead strengthen relations with neighboring countries.
“The neighbor stays, and the guest goes,” Velayati wrote, adding that regional experience has shown that security provided by outside powers does not last indefinitely.
His remarks came amid heightened regional tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Reports have also emerged that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a previously unannounced visit to the UAE during the escalating regional confrontation.
