Gahan Gorge: A Four-Season Paradise in the Heart of Qom’s Desert

According to Saed News Tourism Service, quoting IRNA, a beautiful gorge near the pleasantly temperate village of Qahan in Qom, with its pristine and lush nature, has become an attractive destination for tourists and one of the province’s notable natural sites. Visitors can explore it in spring or any other season.

Nestled in the heart of Qom’s desert lies a four-season paradise called Qahan Gorge. In spring, it enchants with the scent of wild thyme and musk willow; in summer, the cool shade and greenery of its orchards offer relief from the heat. Autumn brings delightful weather and the vibrant colors of the trees, while in winter, its snow-covered expanse captivates every visitor.

This scenic area is located 81 kilometers from Qom city and 35 kilometers along the Saveh road toward Salafchegan, on the border of Qom and Markazi provinces. The gorge stretches 30 kilometers and encompasses the villages of Aghlak, Jamizqan, Qahan, Nuis, Kasva, and Anjiliyeh. Traveling along this path, visitors encounter cooler climates and picturesque foothill and mountain villages.

Seasonal rivers, qanats, and waterfalls in the region create breathtaking landscapes. The fragrance of wild thyme in the highlands of Anjiliyeh, near the gorge, is remarkable, and a variety of medicinal plants can also be found there.

Historical sites are scattered throughout the area, including the “Chahartaqi,” an ancient fire temple located in the heights of Nuis.

Qahan Gorge ranges from 1 to 2 meters in width and over a meter deep, reaching up to eight meters in certain areas, making it a stunning location for walking through its waters.

Upon entering the gorge, visitors are greeted by a narrow, winding valley that is truly awe-inspiring. Its eroded walls have formed fascinating shapes, and crystal-clear water flows throughout.

The best time to visit this gorge is during the first half of the year, when tourists can comfortably wade through the water and explore the gorge. Early spring may be slightly challenging due to cooler temperatures, but the gorge’s natural beauty makes it worth visiting in any season.

Historical attractions in Qahan, including ancient caves, old hideouts, and the shrine of Imamzadeh Hadi (peace be upon him), are open to visitors for much of the year.

Qahan is part of the Jafarabad district and is located 81 kilometers from Qom. Seasonal rivers and qanats have created a fertile, lush valley. Around 20 qanats in Qahan and 15 in Anjiliyeh are key sources of water for the region.

Visitors planning to explore the gorge are advised to wear suitable footwear and carry extra clothing. Walk carefully and calmly along the path to avoid injury. Preserving the gorge’s natural beauty, respecting wildlife, and not leaving any waste are responsibilities of every traveler visiting this pristine area.
