SAEDNEWS: UN Human Rights Council’s 63rd Session in Geneva Highlights Rights Situation in Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories

Human Rights Council Holds Palestine Meeting Without Claimants Present

According to Saednews, At the meeting, representatives from several countries and international organizations presented their positions on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, with a number of speakers strongly condemning Israel’s actions.

At the same time, the absence of several countries that regularly present themselves as advocates and defenders of human rights was notable. Canada, which has played a prominent role in measures against Iran framed around human rights concerns, was among those absent.

Several European countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, and Finland, also either did not attend the meeting or did not deliver statements on the situation of the Palestinian people.

The United States and Israel, which have faced international criticism over human rights issues, announced in 2025 that they would no longer participate in the UN Human Rights Council. Neither was present at the recent session focused on Palestine.

The 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council opened in Geneva on September 7 and is scheduled to continue through October 7.
