Saed News: The UN Secretary-General issued a statement calling for Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied areas of southern Lebanon and respect for the country’s sovereignty.
According to SAEDNEWS, Antonio Guterres, following the fourth high-level trilateral meeting involving representatives of Lebanon and the Israeli regime in Washington, expressed support for the announcement of a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.
In the statement, a UN spokesperson said that the Secretary-General calls on all parties to fully respect the cessation of hostilities, halt any further attacks, and comply at all times with their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law.
He also called on Hezbollah and other non-state actors to support the Lebanese government’s decisions to assert control across the country’s territory and to strengthen state authority over its armed forces.
The statement further urged Israel to fully withdraw from the occupied areas in southern Lebanon and emphasized respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
It stressed the UN’s commitment to supporting all diplomatic efforts aimed at consolidating the ceasefire and ensuring full implementation of Resolution 1701.
Additionally, the Secretary-General reiterated his call for increased support for Lebanese state institutions, including its armed forces, and expressed hope that continued negotiations would contribute to lasting peace and stability.
According to IRNA, clashes in southern Lebanon continue despite an alleged ceasefire extension between Lebanon and Israel. Israeli forces are reportedly continuing bombardments of villages and towns in southern Lebanon and widespread destruction of homes and public facilities.
In response, Hezbollah has reportedly carried out heavy rocket and drone attacks, particularly using FPV fiber-optic drones, against ceasefire violations, resulting in casualties among Israeli forces and destruction of military equipment.
