SAEDNEWS: US President Admits in Letter to Congress that Iran’s Military Capabilities Remain Despite Public Statements
According to SaedNews’ political service, citing Fars News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed in public remarks that Iran’s military capabilities have been completely destroyed. However, in a letter sent to Congress this evening, he adopted a notably different stance.
In the letter addressed to U.S. lawmakers on the occasion of the 60-day deadline in the war against Iran, Trump wrote that “the threat posed by Iran to the United States and our armed forces remains significant.”
The conservative outlet Breitbart News has published parts of Trump’s letter to Congress.
He wrote: “On March 2, 2026, I reported to Congress that on February 28, 2026, U.S. forces launched Operation Epic Fury and carried out precise strikes against the Islamic Republic of Iran regime. I ordered that operation in accordance with my responsibility to protect Americans and U.S. interests at home and abroad, and in line with the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States.”
In another section of the letter, it states: “Despite the success of U.S. operations against the Iranian regime and continued efforts to ensure lasting peace, the threat posed by Iran to the United States and our armed forces remains significant. Accordingly, the Department of Defense continues to update the status of its forces in selected countries within its area of responsibility, as necessary and appropriate, to counter threats from Iran and Iranian proxy forces, and to protect the United States, its allies, and partners.”
Many analysts believe Trump’s harsh and unrealistic claims about the complete destruction of Iran’s military capabilities during the current conflict are the result of pressure he has faced throughout the war.
Reports indicate that Trump’s war against Iran was launched based on intelligence assessments from Mossad, which claimed that after the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, the government in Tehran would quickly collapse.
The New York Times and other U.S. media outlets have reported that the Trump administration underestimated Iran’s ability and willingness to close the Strait of Hormuz and to launch missile and drone attacks against U.S. bases in the region.
More than two months into the war, Trump has come under significant pressure due to the failure to achieve his objectives, rising fuel prices, tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, the lack of an exit strategy, and the strengthening of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s position.
As a result, he has sharply attacked critics of the war and, on the other hand, has attempted to distort reality through inaccurate statements.
In the early hours of Saturday (Tehran time), Trump told supporters that those who say the U.S. has not won the war against Iran are “traitors.”
