Saed News: Next, we take a trip to one of Iran’s heavenly roads, which is said to be the twin of the world’s deadliest road, the Yungas Road.

The Stunning Beauty of Iran’s Deadliest Road – The Teteh Road in Kurdistan in Spring / Is This Heaven or Just a Road? So Exciting!

According to the Saed News Tourism Service, Tetteh Pass is one of the most amazing and at the same time most difficult-to-pass mountain passes in Iran. It is located on the border between Marivan County in Kurdistan Province and Paveh County in Kermanshah Province. This winding pass stretches about 3,000 meters and ends at the beautiful village of Oraman Takht.

Interestingly, snowfall, landslides, and blizzards are so frequent here that the pass is closed for nearly six months of the year and is reopened in early spring. Even in spring, vehicles must pass most of the route from Jhalaneh Junction to Tetteh through an impressive snow tunnel whose walls are between one to three meters high.

During peak snowfall, the snow walls of this tunnel can reach up to 12 meters. The snow tunnel itself and its tall walls are considered one of the scenic attractions of the area. The temperature during the warmest season rarely exceeds 20°C here, and the snow remains on the Tetteh mountains until the end of summer! One of the most fascinating features of Tetteh Pass is the view it offers over parts of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Attractions Around Tetteh Pass

As previously mentioned, Tetteh Pass leads to a beautiful village called Oraman Takht, located in the Oramanat region, which is considered one of the most beautiful mountainous areas in Iran.

Rivers such as Sirvan and Lileh flow through this village, adding to its charm and freshness. These two rivers join together at a border area between Iran and Iraq called Daruleh. The houses in this village are built in a stepped fashion with dry stone walls, which is why it has been dubbed the "Masuleh of Kurdistan." The climate here is mountainous, with many springs and grazing lands. The vast and pleasant orchards on the slopes of the Oraman mountains have made gardening alongside animal husbandry the main livelihood of the locals.

This region is home to diverse plant and animal species. Oak, wild pistachio, walnut, fig trees, and plants like rhubarb, thistle, and wild celery are among the area's vegetation. Besides being mountainous, the land is also covered with vast green forests featuring oak, pear, and hawthorn trees.

It seems that the people of this region have traditionally used wood from these trees for heating their homes and cooking. Oraman Takht was originally a village but recently, with 540 households and a population of 2,800 in 2011, it became the district center. The people speak the Orami language, which is a dialect of Gorani, itself a subgroup of the Northwestern Iranian languages. The residents of Oraman are Muslim, following the Sunni sect.

Ancient Iranian customs are still practiced and preserved here. The villagers wear distinctive Kurdish traditional clothes, which are very beautiful! Men wear clothing items such as Chukha, Pantol, Malki Shal, Dastar, Frenji, and Kallebal, while women wear Jani, Kalanja, Shal, Kolah, and Kelleh.

These clothes are adorned with jewelry and feature unique colors. Oraman’s handicrafts include kilims, prayer rugs, felt, traditional footwear (giveh), wooden utensils, and more. Although Oraman’s pristine nature and mountainous climate make it a sight to behold in every season, May (Ordibehesht) adds extra beauty and charm, painting dreamy landscapes. The beautiful nature of Oraman and the surrounding mountains, the Sirvan River near Oraman, and its dams are among the notable attractions of the area.
