SAEDNEWS: According to Euronews, a French-owned container ship has successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz. This marks the first confirmed passage of a Western European vessel since the regional conflicts began, which had previously caused widespread disruption to maritime traffic.
According to reports from the political section of Saed News and Khabar Online, a vessel owned by the French company CMA CGM, sailing under the Maltese flag, departed from Dubai waters on the afternoon of April 2, heading toward the Iranian coast, according to vessel tracking data.
Following a precautionary protocol, the ship continued its route close to Iran’s coastline, passing through the channel between Qeshm and Larak islands, while openly broadcasting its voyage information. Final reports indicate that the vessel was sighted this morning, April 3, off the coast of Muscat, Oman. Two informed sources also confirmed its successful passage to Bloomberg.
Since the February 28 attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, Tehran has significantly increased control over the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic chokepoint responsible for transporting about one-fifth of the world’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas.
CMA CGM, the world’s third-largest shipping line, is owned by the Saadé family. Headquartered in Marseille, France, the company was founded in 1978 by Jacques Saadé, a Lebanese immigrant, and now plays a key role in European maritime trade.
