SAEDNEWS: A young boy who slipped behind barriers and walked onto the elevated, out-of-service monorail tracks at Hersheypark was safely guided to a nearby roof by onlookers and reunited with his family within 23 minutes, park officials said.
According to SaedNews: Video provided to local TV shows a crowd directing the child toward a roof where a man waited to escort him to safety; Hersheypark confirmed the boy was reported missing around 5:05 p.m., slipped past chains into a secured area and was on the tracks for about 20 minutes before being taken away unharmed and reunited with his family at about 5:28 p.m.
Park guests alerted staff after the boy was reported missing and — while the monorail was not in operation — he managed to get behind chains that block off the area under the elevated track. Surveillance and on-site response led to a brief search during which the child climbed onto the tracks suspended above crowds.
Video from the scene shows guests telling the boy to walk to a nearby roof; a man waited there and escorted him off the structure without apparent injury. Hersheypark officials said the child was reunited with family within roughly 23 minutes of the initial report.
A Hersheypark spokesperson thanked vigilant guests and staff for their “swift response” and reiterated the park’s commitment to guest safety. Officials said the monorail was not operating at the time and that the boy had been in the secure area for about 20 minutes before reaching the elevated track.
