SAEDNEWS: The beautiful and dreamy island of Santorini — an introduction to the beautiful and dreamy island of Santorini, getting to know the beautiful and dreamy island of Santorini, images of the beautiful and dreamy island of Santorini, photos of the beautiful and dreamy island.
According to Saednews, Santorini is the southernmost island of the Cyclades, located in the southern Aegean Sea, approximately 200 kilometers from mainland Greece. The island is also known as Thira (or Thera) and covers an area of roughly 96 square kilometers. Its population is around 6,500–7,000 during the winter and can rise to approximately 11,000 in the summer.
In ancient times, the island had a circular shape and was therefore called Strongili, a Greek name meaning “round” or “circular.” A massive volcanic eruption destroyed the central part of the island and caused it to sink beneath the sea, creating the spectacular caldera that can be seen today.
Today, Santorini has an almost semicircular shape. Some believe that the island’s devastating volcanic eruption may have inspired the legendary story of Atlantis. Over the centuries, Greek communities built villages along the edges of Santorini’s dramatic volcanic cliffs.
These settlements, together with their striking views of smooth volcanic rocks and the deep blue waters of the surrounding bay, give Santorini its distinctive beauty. Visitors can wander through narrow pathways carved into the volcanic landscape and explore areas shaped by ancient lava flows. Another of the island’s most recognizable attractions is its collection of whitewashed houses topped with blue domes, dramatically perched on steep cliffs overlooking the sea.
We hope you enjoy this short virtual journey through Santorini and its breathtaking landscapes, accompanied by a collection of beautiful images.
