SAEDNEWS: A Collection of Diverse Images from the Qajar Era

Journey to the Qajar Era: From Souvenir Photos with Monkeys to the Young Princes’ Entourages (Photos)

According to the historical service of the Saed News analytical media outlet, citing Faradid, these photos can be viewed repeatedly, and each time something new can be discovered in them—from details of clothing and faces to the appearance of houses, streets, and everything else that has undergone many changes over the past century and more.

The first photo today shows a group of street performers from the Qajar era who are seated in front of the photographer’s camera along with the stars of their show—two monkeys.

The second image depicts another group who had an even more dangerous animal for their performance!

The third photo shows a scene from a shadow puppet performance, which was staged during the Qajar era in the royal court or in the homes of nobles and aristocrats. One of the themes of these performances, as can be seen from the appearance of the puppets, was humorous incidents within the court.

The final image shows two relatively young Qajar princes, with a group of tutors and attendants respectfully standing behind them. The child on the right is Etemad al-Saltaneh, the son of Mohammad Ali Shah Qajar, and the child on the left is Nosrat al-Saltaneh, the son of Mozaffar al-Din Shah. In fact, Nosrat al-Saltaneh was the uncle of Etemad al-Saltaneh.
