According to SAEDNEWS, La Marquise, built in 1884 by the French manufacturers “De Dion, Bouton, and Trépardoux,” is a steam-powered four-passenger car made just one year before the early gasoline prototypes of Daimler and Benz.
In 1887, this vehicle achieved a top speed of 38 miles per hour and won the world’s first car race.
