SAEDNEWS: Iran Says US Military Action Damaged 111 Petrochemical and Pharmaceutical Facilities

US Strikes Damaged 111 Petrochemical and Medical Facilities in Iran

According to Saednews, Iran’s mission in The Hague has released remarks by Hadi Farajvand, who said US attacks damaged 60 petrochemical complexes, 44 pharmaceutical factories, and seven other pharmaceutical facilities in Iran.

Farajvand said the reported damage had disrupted supply chains and affected Iran’s ability to meet obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Iran’s permanent representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) stressed that protecting chemical facilities during armed conflicts is essential to maintaining the convention’s integrity, safeguarding peaceful chemical activities, and supporting international cooperation.

He said the alleged US attacks had raised serious concerns regarding Articles 1, 6, and 11 of the Chemical Weapons Convention, as well as the broader objectives of the treaty.

Under the convention, Article 1 sets out states’ general obligations concerning the prohibition of chemical weapons, Article 6 addresses chemical activities that are not prohibited, and Article 11 focuses on international cooperation and economic and technological development for peaceful chemical activities.

Farajvand also reiterated Iran’s concerns about US compliance with the convention, citing Washington’s alleged role in Israel’s chemical weapons program and the US development of non-lethal and incapacitating chemical agents.

He said that more than two decades after these concerns were first raised, they remain unresolved.
