SAEDNEWS: Netanyahu succeeded in steering Likud’s primary results largely in his favor, but anger among defeated candidates and claims of behind-the-scenes interference are deepening tensions inside the party.

Netanyahu’s Likud Nightmare Deepens After Primary Election

According to SaedNews: Radio FM 103 said in an analytical program that although Benjamin Netanyahu won Likud’s primary and secured a candidate list broadly aligned with his preferences, the backlash from his opponents inside the party could become his worst political nightmare. Analysts said that if an opposing faction emerges within Likud, it could mark the beginning of an organized internal challenge to Netanyahu.

The broadcaster’s analysts described the primary results as surprising, particularly because several prominent Likud figures saw their chances decline. At the same time, commentators and party officials agreed that Netanyahu largely managed to shape the outcome in his favor, although the final composition of the list is not yet settled.

One analyst warned that Likud could face a difficult general election because its current candidate list may not be sufficiently attractive to voters, even as reports suggest Netanyahu intends to make changes to it.

According to the analysts, however, such changes may prove difficult. Likud officials are closely monitoring Netanyahu’s conduct, and any attempt to force changes through pressure or threats would take place before representatives whose future in the next Knesset could depend on every decision they make.

Meanwhile, Walla News reported growing dissatisfaction among different Likud figures. People close to candidates who failed to secure places on the list accused Netanyahu of interfering behind the scenes, claiming that “Netanyahu was directing the votes.” Unfulfilled agreements and promises also fueled anger, with some saying: “They lied to us and played with us.”

A day after the vote count ended and the new Likud list was formed, defeated candidates were still struggling to process the results. Some had already begun examining what happened behind the scenes and directing blame toward Netanyahu and other party officials.

An associate of one unsuccessful candidate said, “We are still in shock and have not fully understood what happened.” Associates of another candidate alleged deliberate manipulation, claiming: “Netanyahu directed mayors and branch leaders to undermine certain people. He can justify supporting you and then push you aside.”
