SAEDNEWS: Iran's Army Air Defense Force has intercepted and shot down a hostile suicide drone over the northwestern province of East Azerbaijan, according to official reports.
According to Saednews, Iran's Army announced on Tuesday that its air defense forces intercepted and destroyed an unidentified drone at approximately 6:30 p.m. local time. According to the military's public relations department, the operation was carried out under the country's integrated national air defense system.
State-affiliated media reported that the interception is part of Iran's broader air defense operations during the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel. Iranian officials claim that their air defense units have successfully engaged numerous aerial targets since hostilities began.
According to statements from Iranian military authorities, the country's forces have downed a range of drones allegedly operated by U.S. and Israeli forces, including MQ-9 Reaper, Hermes, and LUCAS unmanned aircraft.
Iranian officials also stated that, during a 24-hour period on April 3, 2026, their military destroyed several aircraft and drones, including an F-15E Strike Eagle, an A-10 Thunderbolt II, multiple MQ-9 Reaper drones, Hermes reconnaissance platforms, and several cruise missiles. These claims have not been independently verified.
Iran's acting defense minister said the conflict accelerated the development of the country's air defense capabilities, asserting that Iranian forces were able to engage more than 200 enemy aircraft, including advanced stealth fighters such as the U.S.-made F-35 Lightning II.
