US Seeks Cheaper, More Numerous Cruise Missiles, Official Says

According to SaedNews: A US War Department official told Fox News that rebuilding and strengthening the country’s military capabilities will require substantial financial resources, while Donald Trump has proposed a budget exceeding $1 trillion.

The official said Washington is negotiating with new companies to manufacture cruise missiles at a lower cost. Producing cheaper missiles, the official explained, would allow the US military to acquire larger quantities for use in military operations against adversaries.

The official also said the US War Department has extended weapons procurement contracts from five years to seven, giving defense companies greater confidence to expand their manufacturing capacity.

The comments come as the Pentagon has pursued major multiyear agreements in recent weeks to increase weapons production and replenish declining US missile stocks. Among them, the US Navy recently signed a seven-year, $22.9 billion agreement with Raytheon to significantly increase production of Tomahawk cruise missiles.
