SAEDNEWS: Iran Says US Sanctions Have Not Disrupted International Flights
According to Saednews, Ramin Kashef Azar, CEO of Imam Khomeini Airport City Company, told ILNA on Wednesday that all flights at the airport are currently operating normally, with no cancellations reported so far.
He said the airport authority has received no official correspondence regarding a reduction in international flights or flight operations, adding that no country has contacted the authority about such a decision.
Kashef Azar also said plans to expand the airport’s international flight network remain underway. Efforts to establish new routes are continuing, with Tunisia and Vietnam among the destinations under consideration.
Meanwhile, Abuzar Shiroudi, head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, described the latest US measures as neither a new initiative nor evidence of effective US policy, calling them “a repetition of a failed policy against the Iranian people.”
He said Iran’s aviation industry has faced restrictions for years on the purchase of aircraft and spare parts, as well as on technical, banking, insurance, repair and maintenance services. Despite these pressures, he stressed that “Iran’s skies have not stopped and will not stop.”
Shiroudi emphasized that the announcement of sanctions does not mean aircraft will be grounded or airlines forced to shut down.
“Sanctions may increase the cost of operations, but they do not have the power to stop Iran’s aviation industry,” he said.
The Trump administration imposed a new round of sanctions on Iran’s aviation sector on Tuesday as part of its broader pressure campaign against Tehran. The measures target 27 Iranian airlines and nine service providers and sales agents that Washington accuses of providing services to Mahan Air, a privately owned Iranian carrier that has been under US sanctions since 2011 over allegations of supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The newly sanctioned service providers and sales agents are based in Turkey, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates.
