SAEDNEWS: Iran, China and Russia Reject US-European Bid to Trigger IAEA Snapback Mechanism as ‘Null and Void’
According to Saednews, In a joint statement at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors meeting, Iran, Russia and China rejected a resolution proposed by the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany to refer the Iranian nuclear issue to the UN Security Council. They argued that the draft lacks a legal basis, contradicts diplomatic efforts, and urged IAEA member states not to support it.
The three countries said the resolution seeks to increase pressure on Tehran and undermine cooperation between Iran and the IAEA by overlooking attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities. They also argued that any attempt to trigger the “snapback” mechanism under the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 has no legal effect.
Iran, Russia and China condemned the attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, stating that the current security situation has made it impossible for the IAEA to carry out its safeguards activities in Iran under normal conditions.
