SAEDNEWS: A YouTuber with 1.65 million subscribers was arrested in Seoul after allegedly refusing a DUI test and trying to flee. Speculation points to SangHyuk, though nothing has been confirmed.
In the early hours of September 21, police in Seoul’s Songpa District arrested a YouTuber with 1.65 million subscribers after he allegedly refused to take a breathalyzer test and attempted to flee the scene.
Identified only as “A” in police reports, the YouTuber reportedly abandoned his car and ran nearly 300 meters before being apprehended. Despite repeated warnings, he declined to comply with the DUI test, leading to his arrest under Korea’s Road Traffic Act.
While officials have not released the suspect’s name, online forums and social media quickly exploded with speculation that the YouTuber is none other than SangHyuk (Kwon Sang Hyuk) — a popular mukbang creator turned fashion personality.
The rumors gained traction as fans began linking SangHyuk’s silence to the unfolding scandal. His most recent social media posts have been flooded with comments demanding answers:
“Was it really drunk driving?”
“Getting arrested as a current offender is shocking.”
“At least give an explanation to your fans.”
As of now, SangHyuk has yet to issue a statement.
SangHyuk first rose to fame on AfreecaTV in 2018, before breaking into the mainstream in 2019. He gained attention for appearances at Seoul Fashion Week and later starred in advertising campaigns, including a major commercial for Narangd Cider.
His YouTube channel has since attracted over 1.65 million subscribers, primarily through food-related (mukbang) content, cementing his place as one of Korea’s most recognizable online creators.
The incident has left fans divided. While some refuse to believe SangHyuk could be involved, others say the silence only fuels suspicion.
One viral comment read: “If it’s not him, he should clear it up. If it is, then this is heartbreaking.”
