“We got him! My fellow Americans, over the past few hours, the U.S. military has carried out one of the boldest search-and-rescue operations in American history for one of our extraordinary flight officers—a highly respected colonel, I am pleased to report, who is now safe and sound!
This brave warrior was behind enemy lines in the treacherous mountains of Iran, pursued by our adversaries who were closing in on him by the hour. But he was never truly alone, as the Commander-in-Chief, Secretary of Defense, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and his fellow servicemembers monitored his position around the clock and meticulously planned for his rescue.
By my order, the U.S. military deployed dozens of aircraft armed with the world’s deadliest weapons to retrieve him. He has sustained injuries, but he will recover. This miraculous search-and-rescue operation follows the successful rescue of another courageous pilot just yesterday—a mission we did not announce at the time, to ensure our second rescue would remain secure.
It is unprecedented in military memory that two American pilots have been rescued separately from deep within enemy territory. We never leave an American warrior behind. That both operations were completed without a single U.S. casualty or injury further demonstrates our absolute air superiority over Iran.
