According to SAEDNEWS, In a remarkable turn of events at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, Iranian athlete Zafar Zakir officially secured a silver medal in the shot put competition after his initial fourth-place finish was overturned following an official protest.
The shot put event in the F55 class took place on the second day of the Games, where Zakir achieved a throw of 11.88 meters, placing him fourth. Meanwhile, his teammate Hamed Amiri finished seventh with a record of 11.37 meters.
After the competition concluded and the official results were announced, the Iranian para-athletics team lodged a protest regarding the performances of two athletes from Serbia and Poland who had claimed the silver and bronze medals, respectively. Following a thorough review, the authorities confirmed the protest, ultimately disqualifying the records of the Serbian athlete and the main record of the Polish representative.
As a result of this decision, Zafar Zakir's throw of 11.88 meters was elevated to the second place, earning him the silver medal at the Paris Paralympics. Additionally, Hamed Amiri moved up one position to finish sixth in the event. Athletes from Bulgaria and Poland took home the gold and bronze medals, respectively.
