German Chancellor Scholz Holds Phone Call With Iranian President

According to SAEDNEWS, On Monday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian engaged in a crucial phone call to address the escalating situation in the Middle East. Deputy spokesperson Wolfgang Buchner released a statement outlining the discussion, which focused on the urgent need for diplomatic solutions during this turbulent time, as reported by Anadolu Agency.

During their conversation, Chancellor Scholz expressed deep concern regarding the potential for a regional conflagration, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures to prevent further military escalation. He appealed to President Pezeshkian to utilize all possible avenues to mitigate the tensions that have engulfed the region.

“The spiral of violence in the Middle East must now be broken; anything else would pose incalculable risks to the countries and people in the region,” Buchner reiterated, underscoring the necessity for immediate action.

This call comes in the wake of escalating hostilities, particularly following the assassination of Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, an act that has drawn sharp condemnation from Iran. Iran has vowed to respond decisively to any violations of its territorial integrity, a stance that reflects the heightened sensitivities surrounding the recent conflict.

Additionally, Chancellor Scholz highlighted the vital role of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. He articulated that reaching such an agreement would be a critical step toward de-escalation in the region. Buchner stated, “The Chancellor once again stressed that the time has come to finalize the agreement for a cease-fire and for the release of the hostages in the Gaza Strip and to implement it immediately in order to end the fighting. This would be an important contribution to regional de-escalation.”

As discussions continue, the international community watches closely, hoping for a resolution that prioritizes peace and security for all nations involved. The emphasis on diplomacy and collaboration is essential in navigating the complexities of the ongoing crisis.
