A straightforward Salt Trick to Ward Off the Evil Eye! (What People Do and Why)

How do methods for removing the evil eye with salt work? Is sprinkling salt beneath a carpet a valid practice for the evil eye? Is using salt to relieve the “heaviness” of a prayer real? This article aims to explain all the raised questions comprehensively and completely.

Removing the evil eye with salt and relieving the heaviness of a prayer with salt

The evil eye is an undeniable reality, so much so that it is directly mentioned in Islamic verses and traditions. In a hadith attributed to the Prophet (peace be upon him) it is said: “The evil eye sends a healthy person to the grave and a healthy camel to the pot.” But what are the methods to repel it and to prevent it?

It is said that one method for removing the evil eye with salt is to use a salt rock, which is considered an effective resource for dispelling negative energies. Keeping a rock salt in the home can neutralize many negative energies and cleanse the environment. If you place a small salt rock in your house, workplace, or car, you may experience better health and higher positive energy.

It is also said that scattering salt in front of the entrance door or behind it is one of the old methods to protect household members from the evil eye. Its countless grains are thought to neutralize and balance negative energies. In addition, to ward off the evil eye with salt you can place a salt rock in high-traffic areas of the home to prevent negative environmental influences.

Another effective method for dispelling negative energies is to use salt in a particular way. For this purpose, sprinkling salt under the carpet for the evil eye is recommended. You can sprinkle it in a cross-shaped pattern beneath the rug near the entryway. By placing salt under the carpet for the evil eye, when people enter the house their feet touch it first and the negative energies they bring are removed. It is recommended to use sea salt or coarse-grained salt. Replace it every few months to maximize its effectiveness.

Method One

To relieve the “heaviness” of a prayer with salt, prepare some coarse, non-powdered salt — about one kilogram or more (enough to sprinkle along the edges of your home walls and yard). Put the salt in a container, perform ablution (wudu), and dry your right hand. At sunset place your right hand on the salt and with the intention of removing the problem recite the following names 313 times: “Allāh al-Ḥayy al-Qayyūm al-ʿAlī al-ʿAẓīm” (God, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting, the Exalted, the Mighty).

After finishing the recitation to relieve the “heaviness” with salt, scatter it throughout the house — especially in the corners of the yard and rooms. While throwing it, repeatedly recite the verse: “wa lā yu’ūdhu ḥifẓuhumā wa huwa al-ʿAliyyu al-ʿAẓīm” (“and neither of them can be weary of preserving them, and He is the Most High, the Most Great”). Continue this action until all of the salt is used. God willing, this practice for relieving the heaviness of a prayer with salt will be effective.

Method Two:

Sea salt, as recommended by some traditional medicine practitioners, is suggested as an effective means of dispelling negative energies and relieving “heaviness.” To use it for that purpose, after finishing washing the body in the bath, sprinkle half a cup of sea salt evenly over the entire body and on the chakras. Then after five minutes, rinse it off with water and take a final shower. This method (the use of salt to relieve the heaviness of a prayer) is said to cleanse the body of negative energies and promote a feeling of lightness and comfort.

Note on sources and a recommended amulet (Harz Imam Jawad)

Although we did not find a reliable source confirming that sprinkling salt under the carpet, using salt to relieve the heaviness of a prayer, or other salt methods definitively remove the evil eye, you will now become more fully acquainted with a highly effective and experienced prayer that is especially recommended for negating the negative effects of the evil eye. This prayer (the Harz of Imam Jawad) is based on a direct narration from Imam Jawad (peace be upon him) and has been endorsed by many scholars, including Ayatollah Bahjat. This talisman, in addition to nullifying the evil eye, is said to have eighty other benefits.

The Harz Imam Jawad armband

Using this talisman requires observing certain rituals, such as writing it on deer hide, placing it inside a specially made silver tube, and binding it to the arm.

This talisman is presented as one of the most authentic and powerful means for nullifying the evil eye, witchcraft, spells, and charms. The great Harz of Imam Jawad (peace be upon him) is handwritten on deer hide according to the text of the hadith. The deer hide is placed within a 925-grade silver tube, and a specific invocation based on the narration of Imam Jawad (peace be upon him) is hand-engraved on the tube. Additionally, a handmade natural leather armband is provided with the talisman.

The deer skin used in this talisman is claimed to be genuine and natural and is provided with a guarantee of authenticity by an experienced scribe, unlike many prayers that appear on printed paper. The writing of the talisman on deer hide is said to be performed with special rituals, during auspicious hours (not when the moon is in its most harmful position), and by professional masters.
