SAEDNEWS: The “Eye of the Earth” Lake in Croatia: A Stunning Natural Wonder Resembling a Human Eye

Earth’s Eye Lake: A Breathtaking Natural Wonder with Stunning Views

According to Saednews, The world around us is full of wonders, some of which are still undiscovered. From the farthest reaches of the galaxy to the most remote corners of Earth, our planet is filled with the most complex mysteries of creation.

If we were to pack a backpack and travel around the world, we would encounter countless natural and historical landscapes—some of them not widely known. Today, thanks to the digital world, we can step into these mysterious places with just a click and be amazed by their beauty.

One of these extraordinary natural wonders is so unusual that it is often said: even the Earth has an eye—a dark “pupil” surrounded by turquoise “eyelids.”

The Blue Eye Spring (Modro Oko)

The famous “Blue Eye” (Modro Oko in Croatian) is a striking turquoise spring located on the border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the foot of Mount Dinara, the landscape suddenly reveals a wide, deep opening in the ground that remarkably resembles a human eye.

This spring is one of the sources of the Cetina River, which flows from the Dinara mountain range. Its breathtaking colors—ranging from turquoise and deep blue to emerald green—create a surreal visual effect. The water emerges from a subterranean cavity approximately 150 meters deep and is exceptionally clear and pure.

From above, the spring truly looks like a giant eye, with shades of turquoise and blue appearing like artistic “makeup” around its edges. This striking appearance is what earned it the nickname “Eye of the Earth.”

The Cetina River and Its Surroundings

The Cetina River itself is equally remarkable. Stretching about 101 kilometers, it eventually flows into the Adriatic Sea. The river basin also holds historical significance, with archaeologists having discovered Roman weapons and medieval tools along its bed and surrounding areas.

A Popular Natural Attraction

The Blue Eye attracts many tourists each year. Adventurous visitors are drawn to its crystal-clear waters and sometimes swim on its surface to experience its beauty up close. However, diving into its depths is strictly prohibited.

Although some professional divers have reached depths of around 115 meters, the full depth of the spring remains unknown, making it one of nature’s intriguing mysteries.

For travelers seeking unique natural wonders, the Blue Eye of Croatia is truly a destination worth adding to the list—a place where nature itself seems to be watching the world.
