SAEDNEWS: Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has provided an update after suffering another brief loss of awareness during a preseason friendly. A German neurology professor explained that the episodes may be related to a treatable neurological condition.
According to SaedNews: Bayern Munich defeated Heidenheim 4-2 in their final preseason friendly on Tuesday, but the match was overshadowed by another worrying moment involving Jamal Musiala.
The 23-year-old midfielder entered the game in the 61st minute and collapsed again six minutes later, with the score tied 2-2. Bayern’s medical staff immediately rushed to provide initial treatment, while players from both teams surrounded him to protect his privacy. Musiala was later taken off the pitch, raising concerns among supporters after a similar incident had occurred days earlier.

During Bayern’s 3-1 victory over Leipzig in the Telekom Cup, Musiala had also experienced a similar episode. He came on in the 69th minute and, shortly after scoring Bayern’s third goal, lost his balance in the 84th minute and fell to the ground with help from new Bayern signing Ismael Saibari. He was immediately substituted, and it had been expected that he would receive rest before facing Heidenheim.
After the latest incident, Musiala posted a message on his official Instagram account thanking fans who had expressed concern. He said his condition had been diagnosed as short and temporary episodes of reduced awareness caused by a neurological dysfunction, adding that the issue was easily treatable.
Musiala explained that while these moments may appear frightening at first, they are currently part of his daily life. He added that there is no danger threatening his health beyond this issue and that, after discussions with specialists, he personally decided to continue his normal routine and pursue his passion for football.
Christoph Kleinschnitz, head of neurology at Essen University Hospital, told the German newspaper Bild that from a neurological perspective, the condition could possibly represent a form of epileptic seizure, potentially absence epilepsy, which causes brief periods of reduced awareness. However, he said a complete evaluation would require access to all neurological examination results.
The professor added that the condition is treatable but may require long-term therapy, while Musiala can continue playing football.
Musiala, who is under contract with Bayern Munich until 2030, has made 231 appearances for the club, scoring 69 goals and providing 45 assists. The attacking midfielder has won 13 trophies with Bayern, including six Bundesliga titles and one Champions League crown.
Hansi Flick’s team will now prepare for their German Super Cup clash against Borussia Dortmund on August 22, before beginning their new Bundesliga campaign on August 27 against Stuttgart.
